It was sunny, cold and very, very windy as I pulled up to
the church. The wind was not about
to take away the joy of this day.
Aaron and Nicole fit together seamlessly. They have weathered a lot of storms together, becoming all
the better and even stronger in their love for it. It is beautiful to see, really, the maturity of a couple,
and the amazing perspective they have on life.
Nicole’s incredibly Dad, Brian, has been battling cancer for
a while now. Last winter, he was
given just months to live. This is
a horrible reality is so many ways- but the way this family has stood together,
loved one another and smiled brilliantly in the face of such circumstances is
nothing short of beautiful. Nicole
and Aaron’s wedding day was originally planned for September- but Nicole wanted
her wonderful, charismatic, articulate, fun and loving Dad to walk her down
that aisle and give her away. She
wanted to have that special Father/Daughter dance at the reception.
In many ways, I braced myself for a day full of happy and
sad tears. There were a few sad
ones- but there were many, many more joy-filled smiles, happy laughs and
thankful hearts. Weddings can be
stressful. There are hours poured
into the planning, investments made and emotions are high. But for Nicole and Aaron- many of those
little things didn’t matter. What
mattered is that they were getting married, what mattered is they had found one
another, what mattered is that Nicole’s Dad was there to celebrate in the
greatness of the moment. And
really, isn’t that what should always matter?
So here is a look into their day- one I won’t soon forget
and I know they will treasure forever.
